Charlotte is a city like no other. Literally I don't know another city like it. I mean...they call downtown, "uptown." Is it opposite day? I still have no idea why, but every time I say "we are going downtown," I give away the fact that we are not from here. But it's cool, because I think 90% of the people in Charlotte aren't from here. We fit right in. Seriously, no one is from here. Charlotte is the second largest financial center in the United States, but it's so much more than that. This city has culture... history, great food, museums, and the arts... and trees and green ways. It's no wonder Charlotte ranks high in the best places to live. And we only live 20 minutes away. Why not drive into the city for an afternoon?
Amelie's French Bakery. I mean, sure, there is a location closer to us, but I happen to really love the ambiance at the one downtown... shoot, I mean uptown!
Macaroons for everyone. I'm not eating sugar at the moment, but I made an exception today. Because, duh, macaroons...
That face because, preteen boys are way too cool for just about anything. Whatever, I know he thought it was cool that you could watch them bake even if he didn't want to admit it.
Post sugar rush, we headed to one of my favorite spots, The Green. Right smack dab in the middle of the financial institutions is this literary escape. It is a literature themed pocket park. I love that term, "pocket park." Charlotte has many. It's hot in the south in the summer...I mean really, really hot. Makes sense to wear bathing suits under your clothes just in case you find a fun place to cool off...
Finally, just a little jaunt over to Romare Bearden park. Had to make a quick stop at the waterfall. Yeah...why wouldn't a city have a waterfall???
