Well it has officially been six months since we have moved from Chicago to Charlotte. Summer was filled with adjustments and exploring our new city. The girls celebrated their birthdays. I dabbled in creating some art. I am beyond thrilled that two of my ballet images were accepted into a juried show and will be on display for the entire month of October at 311 Gallery in Raleigh, NC. School is well underway and the kids have settled into their various activities. I have to tell you, my favorite part of this photography journey is capturing them doing the things they love to do. That is how I got started in the first place. Today, it's this guy's turn...
He's turning twelve tomorrow. This is the last year before he will officially call himself a teenager. Funny thing about near teen boys...they don't love photo sessions. My solution, photographing him doing what he loves. Right now it's soccer season. It's still hot even though it's fall. It was high noon and what felt like a million degrees, but I made the best of it to capture these. I'm ready for cooler air. I can't even imagine what it's like out there on the field...
This kid gives it 110% despite the heat. He played the whole game and scored a birthday goal. He is loving his new team, fitting right in. And middle school? Oh how I dreaded it, but all of my fretting was for nothing. He is thriving and couldn't be happier at our award winning schools.
Twelve... hard to believe. It seems like yesterday when he made me mom. I'm so very proud of the young man that he is becoming. Things change dramatically as a mom to older kids. They still need you every bit as much as they did when they were toddling around, but it's a different need consisting of guidance, support, acceptance and love. So very often people tell you to brace yourself for the teenage years, but I'm pretty sure it will be pretty wonderful.
For now though, we will enjoy twelve. And as we head into the holiday season I'm looking forward to our first Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas in our new home. I'm working on lots of new things photography related for the new year that I can't wait to share with you. But for now, I still haven't given up hope for birthday portraits of my handsome guy. Wish me luck! : )
