I love posed portraits. I have posed portraits of our family adorning our walls, but my favorite portraits are the ones that capture who we truly are and our connections that we have as a family. We call that type of photography, lifestyle photography. I fell in love with this kind of photography before I ever picked up my first professional camera. I remember walking around with our wedding photographer after our wedding and before the reception. It was just me, my husband and the photographer. It was funny, because our photographer was the only one privy to those moments between us just after our wedding. Out of nowhere my husband walked up to me with a huge smile on his face and offered up his hand for a high five, and the photographer caught it. It is my favorite photo from our wedding because it is a moment that I will never forget... a "yes we did it, we got married" kind of moment. So now, 13 years later, it's on my wall and a constant reminder of that tiny little moment during a very large event that I will never forget. That's lifestyle photography and what I am so passionate about!
I have a home studio, but I don't use it very often and there is a very good reason for that. It's there for newborn sessions and for traditional posed portraits. My biggest creative passion is capturing the moments that occur naturally. Those moments don't always happen within the confines of a studio...so that vast majority of the time I shoot on location. The location can be a hospital to capture the moments following the birth of a baby, a client's home where the family is comfortable just being who they are, or outdoors at one of the many gorgeous locations that we have been blessed with here in Naperville. It's either the location where the moments occur or the location lends itself to those moment occurring. My job is to capture them. It's what I love to do, what I am so passionate about and what I have been doing with my own family for the past 8 years.
